Video Description
In this video, I introduce a bass line that incorporates funk grooves into a Bb blues progression.
The Key of Bb offers a refreshing experience for players. Unlike sharp keys, flat keys don’t rely on open strings, requiring a different fingering approach, which can feel new and exciting.
This Key of Bb is also commonly used in sessions with saxophones, so it’s definitely worth a try.
The effect used in this video is the Zoom B1 Four’s envelope filter.
Bass Line 01: Learn the basic bass line while feeling the blues progression. In addition to the bass line, we incorporate a chord approach using the 3rd and 7th notes, and with the envelope filter, it creates an even funkier sound.
Bass Line 02: A simple bass line centered around the root note. It’s easy for beginners to play.
Bass Line 03: A more varied bass line that includes 7ths, 3rds, and passing notes.
Bass Line 04: This classic blues bass line uses the root, 3rd, 5th, and passing notes, played to a funk beat.
Tabs are provided in the latter part of the video, so watch it multiple times and use them as a reference.
I also use these bass lines in my actual lessons with students. Everyone enjoys practicing them, and during lessons, I play guitar while my students play these bass lines, making it a fun jam session.
This video can also be used as a backing track for guitar, so feel free to use it for improvisation practice as well!
