Hello my dear funky folks!
Afraid of WASP stings? Do not worry, you will be safe this time around!
Here comes my treat to you - a little Behringer WASP analog synth funky jam for you all to enjoy:-)
I am so glad I have decided to reacquire this fabulous analog synth module from Behringer company. You know I used to own one long time ago but in the end I let it go for some other stuff I wanted more at that time. Sure, it took me a while to actually get my head around this thing again as it´s kind of a unconventional type of synthesizer in that its operation may not be what you expect and know from when using other synthesizers - in fact it might come as little too complicated for some and it certainly requires some getting used to as it´s not the type of "power it up and play" kind of synth. It may have a bit of a learning curve compared to most others I have to say but it´s certainly worth investing your time in learning it properly.
It has a great sounding filter section - WASP´s strong point - it´s very oldschool gritty, buzzy and super raw. However the envelope section seems to be somewhat tricky to operate not being your usual ADRS type and sure it takes a bit of practice before you can fully master it. Honestly I had quite a bit of head scratching trying to figure it out myself and I still kinda feel this is not the synth for a complete novice or a total beginner (I would rather recommend you start with something more predictable like the Model D or Monopoly).
If however you put some effort into learning it and give this synth a second chance like I have now it will reward you with some truly spectacular analog tones. Sure it may not have the fatness or warmth of a Model D or a cutting punchy character or a Pro 1 but it doesn´t aim to be one of those. WASP is a very special and unique breed of a synth and to me it sits in a category of its own. It´s probably not your everyday synth that you grab first to make patches on quickly. Not the first choice synth for sure but one that can surprise you everytime you pull it out and start sculpting your very own and truly unique WASPY sounds.
In this video, I jam around a little funky groove that I have put together for
testing purposes in which WASP is taking care of all BASS and LEAD
duties. I think it sound pretty cool right?
Please enjoy watching the video and have fun with WASP!
