Samba is a vibrant music that is very layered, so the sidestick-ride-bass drum version we all know and love may not always be the correct sound. It is important to have a more snare drum–based samba under your belt. In this lesson we look at a hybrid, snare-based groove that I use when I need to change up my samba or play it slower (note: a slower samba is not just a "bossa nova").
Now this funky samba may not be 100 percent authentic, but it will give you an easy go-to groove that, while functioning as a samba, can also be used in many other musical applications.
