Somebody open a window cos it's too funky in here!

Family Tree was a band fronted by Sharon Brown and keyboardist Ronnie Bishop. Sharon had written a song "The Family Tree" in 1975 and she recorded it the following year with Al Chisholm and Gary Alexander in the studio. She then left LA and went home and forgot about the song, but found a few years later that the song "Family Tree" had become a big underground club hit in NY.

She quickly applied to license the song and earn royalties then releasing it in the UK when is spread to the US and became a late night staple in those clubs.

Sharon kept on keeping on and in 1982 found a disco hit with "I Specialize In Love" a #2 Disco hit and #51 R&B in the US. It has been remixed three times in 1994, 2002 and most recently in 2011. The dance group Exposé covered the song in 1992 on their self titled CD release. I might take a shot at that one.....hmmm

Sharon continued to record in the 80's to a diminishing audience. "The People's Court" TV show broadcast a case where Carol Douglas had entered into a an agreement with Sharon Brown and felt that she did not honor her obligation. To settle the dispute, the judge had both sing their signature songs, Carol sang a few lines of "Doctor's Orders" and Sharon sang a bit of "I Specialize In Love" making for compelling TV.

Sharon now spends her time fighting gang violence and creating uplifting music while working as a prison minister, bringing her message to incarcerated individuals.
