I bit the bullet and purchased an Avion Studios Retroflyer Preamp for the Rhodes piano. Reasonable price. Active electronics, a bit of EQ, and stereo tremolo on your stage Rhodes. Never had one before. Stereo TRS jack, so you need need that special cable to access the stereo tremolo effect. Rigged all of this together after removing my own electronics, a 15K pot. Big whoop, but it sounded fine. Now you have to plug in the Rhodes to 120V AC. Okay. New thing. Have to mount the jack permanently in the console. As I expected. Expanded dynamic range. Bark when hit. Clean strong signal. Peterson/Janus tremolo. What do you think? I added a bit of Boss Auto Wha to the mix to make it funky. Think it was wise, the owl saith. By the way, this was Bubba's Rhodes. My friend George William "Jay" Knowles was a scholar of jazz and a friend. He died several years ago on 9/11. The anniversary of his death is ensuing. In proper fashion his heart event usurped the bombing of the Twin Towers. I miss him greatly. He taught me most of what I know about jazz music. His home is on 301 S. Bonham in Columbia, SC. I think it sits empty. This was his instrument, and I feel he would be proud to be remembered by its restoration. Peace Out.
