On a cloudy day in New York City, I put together a beat with my MPC1000, a turntable, and a stack of records. Using jazz, funk, and soul records, I found a piano phrase that stood out, a drum break that fit, and a very short horn sample. 90's Hip-Hop is a pretty simple genre and doesn't require too much going on to sound right. I built the entire beat outside, using just the sampler and what I could pull from the vinyl.
