We just wanted to do an Electro jam about sex robots. Why not?
Sex-O-Rama is a satirical "Porn-Funk" band born out of Carvin Knowles’ frustration with a predatory classical music industry. After a disturbing encounter with a conductor who suggested that compromising his integrity was necessary for success, Knowles and his collaborator Adam Pike teamed up with Oglio Records to parody 1970s adult film music. They created fictional personas and music that humorously challenged cultural taboos, unexpectedly becoming a pop culture sensation, with their work featured in films like *American Pie*. Despite personal upheavals, and boycotts, *Sex-O-Rama* released multiple albums that evolved in style, always pushing boundaries and provoking reactions from societal conservatives. The band's legacy endures as a unique mix of humor, satire, and funky grooves, continuing to lampoon and critique social norms.
Sex-O-Rama 5: Invaders from the Pleasure Planet is a nostalgic, eclectic collection of music rooted in the bold and experimental spirit of the 1980s. Reflecting the era's sudden cultural shifts—from parachute pants and synths to legal adult film production in the San Fernando Valley—this album revives tracks originally composed for a variety of films and projects. Six tracks are digitally remastered originals, while others are re-recorded with authentic vintage instruments to capture the original feel. Highlights include sci-fi inspired pieces like Invaders from the Pleasure Planet and Virtual Reality Vixens, as well as genre experiments like Whips and Chains, which explores unique harmonic structures, and Brats in the Boudoir, a pop-culture parody.
