After scoring big with "Easy", the Commodores hit big again with the absolute funkiness of "Brick House". Lionel Richie relates that Walter "Clyde" Orange wrote most of the lyrics and the melody and as such would be the one to sing it. The smoking funk of "Brick House" earned it a #5 peak on the Hot100. Their follow up single was "Too Hot To Trot", recorded specifically for the disco film "Thank God It's Friday" and won them the #1 spot R&B, and a peak of #24 on the pop charts. They did not release another charting uptempo number until "Lady" in 1981.
