I wanted to start your Friday night with something fun from 1982
This song has such a great house party energy! Forgotten until now, I hope. I've been combing through my massive "songs I'm working on" file and found this one all over again. It just grooves so bad, I never wanted it to stop. That bass line and squiggly synth with a bubbling, popping guitar is grounded by the funky piano and drums.
It is not listed on any available record chart but I did locate it when I was looking into Leroy Burgess work with legendary disco producer Patrick Adams and found this gem. I remember hearing this once or twice in clubs during a particularly stormy time in my life, and upon hearing it for the first time since then instantly brought me back to the dread momentarily. Then I realized that I had moved on and things worked out better than I had hoped. This song has as much joy in it as Kool & The Gang's "Celebration" methinks, and I am feeling this song so much, a great springtime funky joint. So Get Down Friday Night!
The original article I had written was quite exhaustive on Fantastic Aleem, their professional and personal connection with Jimi Hendrix and their groundbreaking work with Leroy Burgess throughout the 80's and 90's but still managing to stay relevant. But the limit here I would have to cut out great big chunks of it. I won't have it.
