Paul Brown started as a drummer, he then became an engineer for R&B legends such as Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin before evolving into a two-time Grammy winning urban jazz producer and finally a popular guitarist, artist and performer in his own right. Over the past years, after he had released his debut album, the Los Angeles born and raised guitarist produced/composed over ten solo hit albums for himself and more than 75 #1 radio airplay hits for himself and other artists. He also did thousands of performances worldwide, including gigs with fellow guitarists Larry Carlton, Chris Standring and Marc Antoine, but also others of the genre’s most influential artists, e.g. Euge Groove, Rick Braun, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Jeff Golub and Al Jarreau. And yet Paul admits he’s still trying to find himself as an artist. After all those accolades and live performances, he remains joyously restless – and the only place for him to go is deeper into the music that’s driven his life from the start, the blues.
Michael Paulo grew up in a musical family. Though he came upon the sax relatively late at age 15, he was playing professional gigs around Hawaii within a few years. Rather than accept a scholarship to North Texas State, he chose a more adventurous road by joining Hawaiian pop/rock band Kalapana, which was most popular in Japan. Michael moved to L. A. in 1981 and two years later, he caught his big break when Al Jarreau hired him for his touring band. They were touring together for the next decade. In 1988, Michael recorded his first Major solo release ‘One Passion’ which was critically acclaimed as one of the most influential recordings in contemporary jazz. A dynamic live performer he has never failed to capture the hearts of his fans with his emotive playing and endearing style. He spent eight years as an artist in residence at The Java Jazz Festival and produced the Temecula Wine and Music Festival and Pacific Rim Jazz Festival in Hawaii. Over the years, he has added his distinct saxpertise to a virtual who’s who of artists, incl. Miles Davis, James Ingram, Kenny Loggins, Oleta Adams, Patti Austin, Jeff Lorber, David Benoit, Bobby Caldwell and many more.

Seit der Veröffentlichung seines Debütalbums produzierte der in Los Angeles geborene und aufgewachsene Gitarrist zehn Hit-Solo-Alben und über 75 #1 Radio-Airplay-Hits für sich selbst und andere Künstler. Hinzu kommen Tausende von Auftritten weltweit, darunter Gigs mit seinen Gitarren-Kumpanen Larry Carlton, Chris Standring und Marc Antoine, aber auch mit anderen Größen, z. B. Euge Groove, Rick Braun, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Jeff Golub und Al Jarreau. Dennoch gibt Paul zu, dass er immer noch versucht, sich als Künstler zu finden. Es treibt ihn also immer noch fröhlich-ruhelos um – und alles, was er tun kann, ist tiefer in die Musik einzutauchen, die sein Leben von Anfang an befeuert hat: den Blues.
Michael Paulo wuchs in einer musikalischen Familie auf. Obwohl er mit 15 recht spät zum Saxophon kam, spielte er innerhalb weniger Jahre professionelle Gigs auf ganz Hawaii. Statt ein Stipendium in Nord Texas anzunehmen, wählte er den abenteuerlicheren Weg und schloss sich der hawaiianischen Pop/Rock-Band Kalapana an, die sehr beliebt in Japan war. 1981 zog Michael nach L. A. und zwei Jahre später kam sein großer Durchbruch, als Al Jarreau ihn für seine Band engagierte. Sie tourten die nächsten zehn Jahre zusammen. 1988 nahm Michael seine erste große Solo-CD „One Passion“ auf, die als eine der einflussreichsten Aufnahmen im Contemporary Jazz gefeiert wurde. Der dynamische Live-Performer hat mit seinem emotionalen Spiel und liebenswertem Stil immer schon die Herzen seiner Fans erobert. Acht Jahre lang war er regelmäßig zu Gast auf dem Java Jazz Festival und produzierte das Temecula Wine and Music Festival sowie das Pacific Rim Jazz Festival auf Hawaii. Im Laufe der Jahre hat er seine unverwechselbare „Saxpertise“ einem wahren Who is Who an Künstlern gewidmet, darunter Miles Davis, James Ingram, Kenny Loggins, Oleta Adams, Patti Austin, Jeff Lorber, David Benoit, Bobby Caldwell und viele mehr.
