Slow Blues prompted me to look into Thin Lizzy's second album (mistakenly, since Slow Blues comes from their third album). Yes, there's a lot to be said of less is more on this album. Some songs just flow perfectly from the song structure and the professionalism of the three musicians. Some try in vain to puff up the sound with guitar effects and studio tricks, but what sorely is absent here is an encompassing sonic identity and a clear stylistic direction.
Thin Lizzy in 1973 were:
Philip Lynott – vocals, bass guitar, associate producer
Eric Bell – guitar, vocals
Brian Downey – drums, percussion
with Clodagh Simonds – keyboards, harpsichord, mellotron.
